When you think of a picnic you probably think of an outdoor gathering that includes a well stuffed picnic basket, ample picnic supplies, your family, friends, games and lots of tasty food. However, there is absolutely no reason why you can’t go on a picnic all by yourself!
Life can be very busy and very stressful. Sometimes getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life is just what the doctor ordered. So pack some of your favorite foods, leave your worries behind and take some time out for yourself!
Picnic for One Ideas
Another wonderful thing about picnics is the fact that YOU get to pick where, when and for how long. If you are a morning person, why not plan an early morning, sunrise breakfast picnic! Early morning is the perfect time to relax, reflect and simply get lost in your own thoughts. It is an ideal time for a picnic for one! Fresh fruit, coffee cake and a thermos full of your favorite hot beverage are perfect for your sunrise breakfast….not to mention easy to pack. No heavy picnic basket or picnic supplies needed! Bring along your journal or your favorite book…anything that will allow you to escape!
If mornings are not your speed then consider an evening picnic. After all, the sun setting is just as beautiful and serene as the sun rising! Pick a safe destination and let a friend or family member know where you’ll be. Consider bringing a flashlight or enjoy your evening picnic in close proximity to your car so you don’t get lost trying to get back home.
Plan for Zen. Find a spot with inspirational scenery or a quiet setting free from all the modern conveniences that serve as much to distract us as they do to facilitate our lives. This is an opportunity not just to enjoy food in the outdoors, but to be alone with your thoughts. It helps, now and again, to step back a little and reframe our lives in our mind’s eye without televisions and radios telling what it is we should eat for dinner, drive to work or for whom we should vote.
Sometimes an idyllic and remote setting isn’t what’s called for. Sometimes it’s just a little bit of distance between us and our everyday world that suffices and lends new perspective. It’s the meaning behind that saying, not seeing the forest for the trees. Consider a picnic destination with a view of your office or the city in which you live. It may just help paint a new perspective on the world you’re immersed in so deeply that you often lose sight of the big picture.
Remember that a picnic for one is about you time. It’s a perfect, tranquil way to rebalance a stressful life and it can be done without the usual mass of picnic supplies or the sometime annoyance of coordinating schedules around the busy lives of your friends and family. So give yourself a well deserved break and a new perspective and enjoy a picnic for one.
